EveryPlate is a meal kit subscription service that provides everything you need to enjoy fresh and flavorful dinners at home.

It’s part of Green Chef, another popular meal delivery service that was acquired by HelloFresh in 2018.

EveryPlate is more affordable than many similar services and offers meal kits starting at just $4.99 per serving.

You can also completely customize your menu and pick from 17 unique recipes each week, including several vegetarian and family-friendly options.

Weekly boxes include recipe cards and ingredients, making it easy to whip up home-cooked meals that are ready to eat in just 30–45 minutes.

You can also easily skip a week or make changes to your menu up to 5 days prior to each delivery, making it a convenient option for those with a busy schedule.

EveryPlate is advertised as “America’s Best Value Meal Kit,” with boxes starting at just $4.99 per serving, though this can vary depending on the number of meals you order. There’s also a shipping fee of $9.99 on every order.

Here is a closer look at the cost for each plan:

3 meals/week4 meals/week5 meals/week
2 servings/meal$5.89/serving$5.49/serving$5.29/serving
4 servings/meal$4.99/serving$4.99/serving$4.99/serving

EveryPlate also offers a student discount, which provides students with meals for $1.99 per serving in their first box, along with 20% off their next 2 boxes.

According to EveryPlate, the company is able to offer these meal kits at a low price by making minor adjustments to its menu options and packaging to help cut costs.

EveryPlate features a rotating weekly menu with 17 recipes.

Most recipes consist of a source of protein with vegetables and a starch, such as potatoes, pasta, couscous, or rice.

You can select up to four preferences, which you can use to build your own custom menu:

  • Meat & Veggie
  • Veggie
  • Family Friendly
  • Quick & Easy

Each order includes most of the ingredients required for each recipe, such as meats, produce, herbs, spices, starches, and sauces.

However, certain meals may also require some basic ingredients such as salt, pepper, sugar, butter, or cooking oil.

You can select 3–5 meals per week, each of which contains either two or four servings, depending on your subscription plan.

If you would prefer to be surprised, you can also let the service pick your meals for you.

How to sign up for EveryPlate

After selecting your plan, you enter your payment and shipping information and then select the meals that you want to receive in your first box.

Because there are no contracts, you can cancel or freeze your plan whenever you want. You can also skip up to 4 weeks at a time or make changes to your weekly order before it’s delivered.

Just keep in mind that any modifications must be made at least 5 days prior to your next delivery.

EveryPlate shipping and delivery

EveryPlate orders are delivered weekly between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., depending on where you live and your local carrier.

All meal kits come sealed in insulated boxes packed with ice to keep your items fresh for up to 48 hours without refrigeration.

Additionally, boxes are shipped using insulated liners, ice packs, and cooling materials, which help ensure freshness during transit.

No signature is required for delivery, and you can specify delivery instructions as needed when placing your order.

What type of meals does EveryPlate offer?

EveryPlate strives to keep cooking simple, as most meals come with few ingredients and take 25–45 minutes to cook.

The service allows you to select up to four preferences:

  • Meat & Veggie
  • Veggie
  • Family Friendly
  • Quick & Easy

However, even if you choose any of the preferences listed above, you can still view and order from the entire menu.

Ingredient quality

According to its website, EveryPlate uses high quality ingredients sourced from a variety of suppliers around the country.

However, the company provides very limited information available about where ingredients are sourced or what steps it takes to ensure quality.

It also doesn’t provide any details on whether ingredients are sustainably sourced, organic, or produced by local suppliers.

To keep costs low, EveryPlate currently caters only to people following a vegetarian diet or to those without specific dietary needs or preferences.

While it offers around five vegetarian meals per week, EveryPlate doesn’t offer options for people following vegan, ketogenic, paleo, gluten-free, or low carb diets.

Additionally, while EveryPlate provides nutritional information and details on ingredients and potential allergens in each meal, the service may not be suitable for those with severe food allergies or intolerances because of the risk of cross contamination.

Additionally, note that EveryPlate uses mostly conventional ingredients, which may not be ideal for people who prefer to eat organic food.

Though EveryPlate is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, it currently holds an A rating from the organization. This is based on factors such as complaint history, business practices, and any known licensing or government actions against the company (1).

On Trustpilot, EveryPlate has an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars, which is based on 18,783 customer reviews (2).

Reviewers on Trustpilot note that the meals are flavorful and easy to prepare. Many say the service provides a good value for the price and can help you save time on shopping.

Less favorable reviews report issues with the packaging and ingredient quality of orders.

Some customers also note that the portion sizes are relatively small and the menu can get repetitive over time.

In the past, the company has had to recall ingredients because of contamination. For example, in October 2021, EveryPlate issued a voluntary recall of meals containing onions because of the potential presence of Salmonella bacteria (3).

Editor here! After trying HelloFresh and Green Chef, I was curious to see how EveryPlate compared.

Thoughts on the sign-up and meal selection process

Getting started with EveryPlate was easy and very similar to other meal kits I’ve tried.

As I don’t follow a specific diet, I chose the ClassicPlate option for two people.

Next, I selected three meals to try. Despite being less expensive than HelloFresh, I felt that the recipe options were very similar, offering a range of flavors, proteins, and other ingredients.

With that said, I didn’t find the selections to be quite as exciting as Green Chef’s.

Still, I easily found three recipes that I was excited to try:

  • Garlic Lime Chicken Fajitas
  • Moroccan Chickpea & Apricot Tagine
  • Roasted Bell Pepper Flatbreads with Creamy Tomato Sauce & Mozzarella

As with HelloFresh and Green Chef, EveryPlate includes labels, such as “Veggie” or “30 minutes or less,” making it easy to select recipes that best fit your lifestyle and meal preferences.

Ingredient freshness and quality

The ingredients and recipe cards arrived in a recyclable cardboard box. Despite being loose in the box — rather than packaged individually by meal — all the ingredients were in good condition when they arrived.

Everything looked fresh, including the chicken, which was nestled close to an ice pack.

Are the meals easy to prepare?

While there’s some multitasking involved, all the recipes I tried were quick and easy to prepare. In fact, both the Fajitas and Tagine recipes have estimated 35–45-minute cook times, but I was able to prepare all the meals in under 30 minutes.

As with other meal kits, EveryPlate’s recipe card is super user-friendly.

On the front, you’ll find ingredient lists, including ingredients included by the company, as well as items you’ll need to provide from your pantry. For the three meals I prepared, these pantry items included salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil, butter, and hot sauce.

Flipping the recipe card over, you’ll find step-by-step instructions with helpful photos.

Taste

Here are my thoughts on the taste and texture of each dish.

Garlic Lime Chicken Fajitas

While the lime crema was zesty and the tortillas were soft, the peppers were a bit too bitter for my taste buds. I also found myself wishing for fresh tomato or avocado slices to make the dish a bit more exciting.

That said, the fajitas were still enjoyable — just not the best fajitas I’ve made at home.

Moroccan Chickpea & Apricot Tagine

This was my favorite dish, as it had a good variety of flavors and textures. In fact, I could easily see myself making this dish again on my own, as it would be great for meal prep.

My only complaint is that I received two vegetable concentrate packets, yet the recipe instructions call for three packets. Still, I found the dish to be plenty flavorful without the extra packet.

While I had high hopes, this recipe unfortunately fell flat. The sauce wasn’t as creamy as I expected and lacked in flavor. I also wished that there were more exciting toppings, as after the other two meals, I was pretty tired of onion being used as one of the main vegetables.

Simple additions, like a sprinkle of feta or goat cheese and roasted broccoli or marinated artichoke hearts, would have made this a much better dish.

Would I order EveryPlate again?

With that said, there are aspects of other — admittedly more expensive — meal kits I like better.

For instance, as our fridge gets crowded quickly, I appreciate the convenience of having ingredients for each meal grouped together in individual paper bags — something that Green Chef offers.

Additionally, while I only sampled one week, EveryPlate’s ingredients and flavor combinations aren’t as exciting or varied as those offered by Green Chef, Sunbasket, and Purple Carrot.

Furthermore, I personally prefer to pay extra for services offering organic produce and sustainably sourced fish.

However, considering that EveryPlate is almost half the price of similar meal kits and the ingredients arrived fresh and in good condition, I think it’s worth considering if your top priorities are price and convenience.

EveryPlate is a good option for those hoping to save time on meal prep and include more home-cooked dinners in their diet.

Since ingredients and instructions are included with each kit, EveryPlate is also good for those who are new to cooking and want step-by-step instructions for making a home-cooked meal.

In addition, EveryPlate is suitable for busy individuals looking to cut time on grocery shopping and have fresh ingredients delivered right to their door.

Finally, it may be especially useful for those on a tight budget, as it offers meal kits at a fraction of the cost of many similar services.

EveryPlate may not be the best choice for if you have dietary restrictions or severe food allergies.

It may also not be ideal for people who prefer to eat organic, or those seeking a meal service designed specifically for certain diet plans or health concerns.

Additionally, because most meals require at least 30 minutes to prepare, those who are more limited on time might prefer services that also offer fully prepared meals.

Also, if you enjoy more advanced meals or are a culinary expert, you may not enjoy the simpler meals that EveryPlate offers.

There are several comparable meal kit services, including Dinnerly, HelloFresh, Green Chef, and Blue Apron.

Is EveryPlate healthy?

Many of the meals on EveryPlate’s menu feature a variety of nutrient-dense ingredients — including vegetables, herbs, and lean proteins — and can fit into a balanced diet.

However, some of the meals are relatively high in calories, carbs, sodium, and fat, so be sure to check the menu carefully to find options that fit your needs and health goals or restrictions.

Is EveryPlate good quality?

EveryPlate offers a wide range of recipes and claims to use high quality ingredients sourced from a variety of suppliers. The company notes that ingredients are carefully packed and insulated so that they are delivered at peak freshness.

However, the company provides limited details on the sourcing of ingredients and the steps it takes to ensure quality. It also does not provide any specific details on whether ingredients are organic, non-GMO, or sustainably sourced.

EveryPlate offers fresh, flavorful, and affordable meal kits that you can easily prepare at home.

As the meals are simple to make, it may be a good option for those hoping to enjoy more home-cooked meals while also brushing up on their cooking skills.

With that said, the service isn’t suitable for everyone. In particular, it’s not ideal if you’re following a certain diet or have severe food allergies or intolerances. It also doesn’t prioritize sustainable or organic ingredients.

While there are meal delivery services we like better, at $4.99 per serving, it’s worth considering if you’re looking for a more affordable alternative to services like Green Chef or HelloFresh.
