The posterior cecal artery is located in the abdomen near the lower intestines. It branches from the ileocolic artery and may branch further to the appendicular artery.

The posterior cecal artery is responsible for supplying blood to back surface of the cecum, which is the beginning of the large intestine. The appendix is also attached to this area.

Blockage in this artery can cause blood to flow slowly or not at all to the portion of the intestines that it serves. This can prevent this part of the intestines from receiving oxygen, which can result in the death of cells in that area. In certain cases, surgery may be required in order to correct or bypass the blocked area.
