Premature Rupture of Membranes: Conservative Management

Medically reviewed by Alison Stuebe, Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MAWritten by the Healthline Editorial Team on March 15, 2012

Conservative management in the setting of PPROM refers to the methods used to delay delivery. Your doctor may prescribe bedrest (often in the hospital) and administration of antibiotics to prevent infection, medicines to prevent labor, or steroid injections to help your baby's lungs develop. Conservative management includes frequent monitoring for evidence of infection or cord compression (as shown by a slow fetal heart rate).
