If you’re thinking about trying a penis enlargement method or product, you might have heard about olive oil and onion. Some people claim that applying these ingredients to your penis can make it grow.

First, it’s important to know that most people who consider penis enhancement actually have a normal-sized penis. It’s also likely that your penis is within the normal range. In fact, there isn’t even a universal scale for measuring penis size, according to a 2019 research review. This means “normal” can vary greatly.

Second, there are no penis enlargement remedies proven to be effective. Some techniques can be dangerous if you do them at home.

While there’s no evidence that olive oil and onion for enlargement carries a risk, there’s also no evidence that the remedy actually works.

If you have a penis and are worried about penis size or micropenis, read on. This article will explore various penis enlargement techniques, along with their risks.

Natural remedies are helpful for managing minor ailments. Many people use them to treat conditions like dry skin or sore throat.

But many of the natural remedies found on the internet are not backed by science. This includes penis enlargement remedies, like olive oil and onion. Any claims associated with these techniques are false.

There are also penis enlargement supplements available over-the-counter (OTC) and online. But there’s no proof that these supplements work.

Also, enlargement supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA. These products aren’t held to specific safety standards.

FDA warning

In 2020, the FDA issued a warning regarding OTC male enhancement products, including those that claimed to enlarge your penis. The FDA found that some of these products contained potentially dangerous ingredients. What’s more, these ingredients were not listed on the product labels.

Some products also had ingredients used in prescription medicine. This demonstrated a serious health risk because the ingredients interact with other medications or dietary supplements.

Surgery is an option for penis enlargement. But like supplements, surgery is associated with serious complications.

There are also no guidelines for the best method. Therefore, any procedure that’s meant to increase penile length and girth is considered experimental. Cosmetic procedures are also often risky or unsuccessful.

Due to the risks, penis enlargement surgeries are usually only used when medically necessary.

Options for penis enlargement surgery include:

Silicone implants

To date, the Penuma procedure is the only penis enlargement surgery approved for commercial use under the FDA’s 510(k) regulation.

The Penuma is a silicone implant that’s shaped like a crescent. It’s surgically inserted under your penile skin, increasing the length and girth of your penis.

During the procedure, a surgeon makes a small cut above your penis. They place the silicone on your shaft then close the incision with stitches.

Possible complications include:

  • pain
  • infection
  • surgery to remove implant
  • shortened penis due to multiple surgeries

Fat grafting

Fat grafting uses your own fat tissue to make your penis wider and longer.

During the procedure, your surgeon removes fat tissue from a part of your body. They use syringes to insert the fat into your penis.

However, the effects of fat grafting don’t last forever. You may need multiple fat grafts to maintain the results you want.

Suspensory ligament release

Suspensory ligament release is a procedure that makes your penis look longer. It doesn’t actually change the size.

The suspensory ligament connects your penis to your pubic bone. It creates a slight arch at the base of your penis. When this ligament is cut or released, your penis can hang lower. This creates the illusion of a larger penis.

In some cases, a suspensory ligament release might cause the opposite effect. Possible complications include:

  • shortened penis
  • erectile dysfunction
  • improper support during erection

V-Y advancement

During a V-Y advancement, a surgeon creates an incision above the base of your penis. The incision is shaped like an upside-down V.

Next, they stitch the incision close in an upside-down Y shape. This pulls the tissue toward the middle, which lengthens the skin of your penis.

This procedure is often done with a suspensory ligament release.

Injectable augmentations

Other procedures use injections to enlarge penis size. Examples of injectable substances include:

  • liquid silicone
  • mineral oil
  • polyacrylamide
  • hyaluronic acid

These injections can cause serious complications, such as:

  • swelling
  • a negative reaction to foreign materials
  • penis distortion
  • granulomas (lumps of immune cells)
  • surgery to remove injectable materials

Since there are no proven remedies for penis enlargement, it may be best to focus on your concerns about size.

Understandably, this can be difficult if you’re insecure about the size of your penis. If you’re unsure where to start, try these tips:

  • Talk with your partner about your concerns. Communication is a healthier, safer method of improving your sex life than trying enlargement techniques.
  • Remind yourself that society places pressure on males to have large penises.
  • Ask yourself if you have a realistic perception of “normal” penis size. Consider if the media, including pornography, has skewed your perception.
  • Talk with a mental health professional about your concerns. They can help you develop a more positive body image.
  • If you have serious concerns about the size of your penis, including possibly worry about micropenis, talk with a doctor. This is safer than exploring solutions on your own.

Despite claims on the internet, olive oil and onion won’t increase your penis size. There’s no scientific proof that the remedy works.

Other remedies, including OTC supplements, also aren’t effective. These supplements may contain dangerous ingredients, so they might do more harm than good.

If you’re worried about penis size, communicate your concerns with your partner. It may also help to talk with a mental health professional. If you’re concerned about micropenis or other issues related to your penis, talk with a doctor.
