According to the World Health Organization, poor indoor air quality can significantly diminish health. Common irritants in indoor air include:

  • allergens, including pollen and pet dander
  • VOCs (volatile organic compounds), such as benzene and formaldehyde
  • particulate matter, such as dust and smoke

Using an air purifier or air cleaner can help rid indoor environments of a significant percentage of airborne particles. This may make air purifiers beneficial for people with asthma, allergies, COPD, and other respiratory conditions.

Air purifiers work by filtering and trapping indoor pollutants. Those that contain an absorbent material, such as activated charcoal, can reduce airborne gasses, including VOCs.

Honeywell is a well-known manufacturer of air purifiers. Read on to learn about the company and some of its most popular models.

Honeywell International, Inc. is a New Jersey-based, international conglomerate that has been in operation since 1906. It has gone through several mergers and acquisitions since that time.

Initially, Honeywell’s sole focus was the manufacture and sale of heat generators. They currently produce a variety of goods and materials in multiple industries, including:

Air purifiers require an additional outlay, plus ongoing costs for replacement filters and prefilters. When determining cost, also consider the electricity required to operate them 24/7.

Air purifiers in general can run anywhere from $50 to $4,000 or more. A primary driver of cost is the amount of square footage an air purifier is designed to operate in. Many air purifiers for home use are available in the $100 to $250 range.

Honeywell air purifiers range from around $50 to $700. Most are Energy Star certified and will save you around 40 percent on energy costs.

Each model comes with a 5-year limited warranty for repair or replacement of products that are defective in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover washable prefilters or HEPA filters.

Replacement filters and prefilters should be changed every 3 months on average. Honeywell filters range in price from $10 for smaller-model single packs to $170 filter bundles for industrial-size purifiers.

Honeywell air purifiers contain either HEPA, HEPA-type, or permanent washable filters. Many also contain activated charcoal prefilters.

Honeywell air purifiers range in size from tabletop models to towers or large, freestanding models. There are purifiers designed for small, medium, and large-size rooms. Most provide five air exchanges per hour.
