If you’re looking for a foam mattress designed to be breathable and made of eco-friendly materials, Amerisleep’s line of mattresses may be a good option.

The brand offers a wide selection of mattresses for a variety of sleepers.

Read on to determine which one may be the right fit for you.

Amerisleep, founded in 2010, prides itself on its eco-friendly, American-made mattresses.

They use viscoelastic foam with plant-based oils — instead of the petrochemicals used in some foam production. They call this type of foam material Bio-Pur, and, according to the company, it’s designed to be breathable, responsive, and supportive.

Below are some pros and cons of their mattresses and company policies.

Pros

  • Their Bio-Pur foam, made of plant-based materials, offers body contouring and “bounce back.” It’s said to provide support without the stuck feeling often associated with memory foam.
  • Amerisleep mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified and made without formaldehyde, ozone-depleting chemicals, prohibited phthalates, PBDEs, mercury, lead, or other heavy metals. This reduces the “off-gassing” found with other foam mattresses.
  • Amerisleep offers an extended warranty of 20 years and a risk-free trial for 100 nights.

Cons

  • Your body may need time to adjust to the buoyancy of the foam. Some who are accustomed to innerspring mattresses may never quite make the adjustment.
  • Some reviewers report the foam loses its shape and firmness and that the warranty isn’t honored.
  • It may be difficult to pinpoint which of the five firmness options works best for you. If it’s too firm, buying a mattress topper may be required.
  • You must keep the mattress 30 days before a return can be initiated.

Amerisleep offers their customers a lot of options, with five different models. To start, their mattresses come in seven different sizes:

The price ranges for each size depending on the mattress type. You could pay as little as $899 for a twin AS1 and as much as $2,658 for a split king AS5.

The pricing indicated for each of the mattresses below is for queen-size mattresses.

  • $$ = $1,000–$2,000
  • $$$ = over $2,000

Amerisleep offers five different firmness options to accommodate a variety of preferences and price points. And they’ve named each model simply.

Amerisleep AS1

This is Amerisleep’s firmest option, featuring dense foam layers at the base.

Many customers like the eco-friendly quality of Amerisleep’s materials, and they note no off-gassing when their mattress came out of the box. Off-gassing refers to the release of a chemical in vapor form. It’s what many people commonly associate with the smell of a new car or certain furniture.

In the case of a foam mattress delivered in an airtight package, the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) used in the manufacturing process are released as gas when the box is opened and the foam expands. Because the materials used in Amerisleep mattresses are plant-based, there isn’t as much (or any) off-gassing.

In addition to the general comparative comfort of the foam, many report that the cooling quality of the materials allows for a better night’s sleep.

Though temporarily out of stock, the AS3 was previously available on Amazon, and has 3.9 out of 5 stars with 14 reviews at the time of this article. The AS2 and AS4, also currently out of stock on Amazon, have a rating of 4.2 out of 5 with over 70 reviews.

Most Amazon reviewers are pleased with their mattress choice, reporting a comfortable bed with great customer service.

However, a few unsatisfied reviewers say the materials are of “poor quality” or report that the foam becomes like a “marshmallow” within a year, but the warranty isn’t honored.

Generally, Amerisleep has a strong reputation. They were one of the first mattress makers to cut out the middleperson and sell directly to consumers online.

Though they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau, they do have an A+ rating with the organization.

Amerisleep mattresses can be purchased both online and at one of their 12 stores in the United States.

Shipping within the continental United States is free, and delivery takes about one week. However, some reviewers noted delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

You can expect your mattress to arrive compressed in a box and wrapped in plastic.

Note that putting the mattress on your frame and unrolling it usually takes two sets of hands. While most reviewers report minimal complications with setup, it can take some time for the foam to fully expand. One reviewer claims their mattress took 48 hours to fully expand.

Overall, Amerisleep produces a fairly affordable mattress using quality, eco-friendly materials.

For those wanting a memory foam bed that doesn’t trap heat and comes in a lot of firmness options, Amerisleep mattresses could be a prudent choice.
