The bedroom might be the easiest place to get it on, but a change of scenery can really up the fire on your sexual mood.
As a certified sexologist, I know the best places to get adventurous are still within your home. From the couch to the kitchen to the shower, check out these sex positions to make your entire home a sexual playground.
The couch is one of the first places we venture once we decide to move sex from the bed to elsewhere in the house.
It feels both naughty and right at the same time — “naughty” because the couch is still not the designated space for sex, and “right” because couches are comfortable and easy to maneuver.
1. Standing lotus
You may have tried the classic lotus, which is when your partner enters you while seated face-to-face.
But for the standing lotus, sit on the edge of the couch with your partner standing in front of you. If there’s a height disparity, add some pillows under your butt for lift, or choose a higher surface.
This position is both easy to manage and very intimate. It allows for deep, passionate kissing and clitoral stimulation, either manually or with a toy.
2. Sexy couch potato
The couch can be a pretty great location for oral sex because you have easy access to your partner’s genitals in a relaxed way: no smothering, choking, or jaw pain.
Have your partner sit on the couch, feet on the ground, as if they’re about to binge some Netflix. Grab a pillow so you can kneel comfortably between their legs while you give them oral sex.
If you want, you can even put some porn on the TV for you both to enjoy.
3. The leanback
For all you anal sex lovers out there, the leanback is an awesome position to try on the couch.
Have your partner sit on the couch, feet firmly placed on the floor. Then lean back into your partner, essentially sitting on their lap. This will allow you to fully control the thrusting, which is helpful for anal sex, as the receiver should always be in control of depth.
For better effect, try to rest your hands on one of the couch’s arms. This way you can have more control.
The shower is a pretty sexy place. You’re both wet, you’re slippery and soapy, the water is warm and inviting — not to mention you’re naked.
But shower sex is often challenging because sex standing up isn’t easy. However, it can be very hot if done correctly.
1. Hand sex in the steam
Think of shower sex as a chance to explore each other’s bodies. Have your partner turn around and let the water run over them while you touch their genitals.
Standing behind your partner while using your hand on them sets up a seductive power dynamic. You have them sandwiched between the shower wall and your body, the soap running all over both of you. It’s a dominant position, which can up the sexy factor.
2. A 3-legged stand
If you must have penetration, that’s your prerogative!
Have your partner hold one of your legs up as they enter you. This position lets you keep your balance during shallow penetration and doesn’t force your partner to hold your entire weight, which can lead to slip-related injuries. (No one wants that.)
This position is optimal for both vaginal and anal intercourse, as the range of motion is quite limited. Just make sure you have silicone lubricant on hand. Water lube doesn’t make for adequate lube.
Keep in mind this position is most challenging for those who have a significant height difference. So, if this is the case for you and your partner, you might want to consider other positions.
3. Standing cunnilingus
Lean your back against the wall of the shower. Have your partner kneel in front of you and go down on you.
If you can comfortably place a foot on your partner’s shoulder, give it try. This half-spread of the legs will allow for better access to your genitals. Just be sure they can handle the weight.
You can wash your sex toys while still in the shower, but use a mild soap instead of a scented body wash.
The kitchen is a taboo place to have sex, because, well, you eat in there! But your kitchen is full of fun supplies and different surfaces just begging for some fun.
1. Half-seated V
Sit on the edge of your kitchen island or counter and have your partner stand in front of you. Your kitchen table can also do quite nicely.
Lie back and place your ankles on their shoulders, and have them enter you standing.
If the hard surface is a bit hard on the receiver’s tailbone, try placing a pillow or folded dish towel under their butt for extra comfort.
You can even buy special sex pillows for this purpose, such as Pillo by Dame. This extra lift can also be helpful if you want to modify this position for anal penetration, as the extra lift will put your hips at just the right angle.
2. Sensory play
While not a “sex position” exactly, the kitchen is chock-full of tools that are perfect for exploring sensory play.
Interested in a little light kink? Have your partner give you a spanking with a wooden kitchen spoon. You can use a clean dish towel as a blindfold, if you want to up the heat.
Another awesome thing about kitchens? The ice maker. Lie on the kitchen table with your makeshift blindfold over your eyes. Have your partner put a piece of ice in their mouth. Before it melts, have them run it over your nipples, belly, and inner thighs.
3. Standing doggy style (fridge edition)
If you have a metal or stainless steel fridge, the cool temperatures offer a sexy sensation against your skin. Press your upper body against the fridge for support, and have your partner enter you from behind.
Before you do this, make sure you have a grounded, heavy fridge. Hot kitchen sex will come to a swift end if your refrigerator starts tipping over.
You may also want to move any bags of chips or dish ware that you have stored on top of the fridge, in case they get disturbed by your movement.
One of the things that dampens a spark in our sex lives is a lack of adventure and novelty. Human beings are naturally curious. Having sex in new places can reignite that spark, giving you space to try something new.
Your sex life can be hot forever as long as you put in the time to keep it fresh — and now you have new ideas of places to do it in your home!
