Tempo is our pick for the best workout mirror. It comes with more workout equipment than Tonal and other smart mirrors.

A workout mirror can challenge your fitness level, even when space is at a premium and you want to maintain your home’s aesthetics.

But which of these smart mirrors is worth your money?

Tempo beats out Tonal for our top pick because of how much equipment is included with your initial purchase (and some models are still more affordable than Tonal). It also has a good variety of classes.

However, Tonal may still be a good choice if you’re willing to splurge and want high tech features such as automatically adjusting resistance.

What our tester says

“I adore our Tonal. It’s really fun, and it saves so much space compared with all the different weights we’d need to replicate what it offers. Tonal also provides the guidance that beginners like myself really need to be successful.

“My husband, who’s experienced with weightlifting, appreciates the challenge that the digital weight provides.

“I’ve never stuck to a strength training routine before, but Tonal makes it so easy. After 5 weeks, my strength has increased steadily and I’ve noticed more definition in my shoulders.

“Overall, I’ve loved lifting weights on the Tonal and have found the on-screen demos along with real-time form feedback to be incredibly helpful. The live class was also really fun and energetic.”

Tonal is a home gym that uses dynamic weight instead of bands, barbells, or plates. While the device itself is small and thin, Tonal offers 200 pounds (lb) [90.9 kilograms (kg)] of resistance via magnetics and electricity rather than bulky equipment.

The machine is equipped with adjustable arms to support both upper body and lower body workouts.

It also has a crisp 24-in (61-cm) interactive display for streaming thousands of classes, such as interval training, yoga, and dance cardio.

What we really love is how the machine can automatically adjust the resistance level based on your needs and goals.

To stream classes, you’ll need a Tonal membership, which costs $59.95 per month and includes unlimited user accounts.

While you can use your own attachments (with adapters purchased from Tonal), Tonal also offers a Smart Accessories bundle, which includes a triceps rope, a workout bench, an exercise mat, a foam roller, a smart bar, and smart handles.

Just keep in mind that the bundle costs an additional $495.

Measuring just 50 in (127 cm) tall and 20 in (50.8 cm) wide, the Echelon Reflect is one of the most compact workout mirrors on the market.

It takes up very little wall space, and Echelon now offers a floor stand in case you prefer not to mount the device on a wall. It’s also the most affordable option on our list.

Unlike the original Reflect, the Echelon Reflect Touch Smart Fitness Mirror offers a 50-in touchscreen display that makes it easy to browse classes and view your performance history.

With an Echelon Connect membership, you can use the Reflect to access more than 2,000 live and on-demand classes, including cardio kickboxing, Zumba, yoga, strength training, and Pilates.

The app also offers live leaderboards, allowing you to compete against your friends for added motivation.

While the reflective screen allows you to follow along with trainers and keep an eye on your form, the machine doesn’t offer live feedback on form.

Shipping is free when you purchase the device along with a 2-year Echelon Connect membership. Otherwise, you’ll need to factor in an additional $199 fee for delivery.

Here’s what we considered while making our list of the best workout mirrors:

  • Features: We looked for workout mirrors with a variety of features, such as exercise equipment, integrated speakers, and built-in cameras.
  • Training options: The workout mirrors on this list offer a range of live and on-demand fitness classes.
  • Customer reviews: All the mirrors on this list have mostly positive customer reviews. We also tested several of the mirrors ourselves.
  • Vetting: All the products included have been vetted to ensure they meet Healthline’s business standards and align with our approach to well-being. Learn more about our vetting process.
  • Subscription cost and content: The subscription costs for these mirrors are suitable based on the number and types of classes and workouts available.

When shopping for a workout mirror, you’ll want to consider factors such as the accessories, class options, size, and price.

Accessories

One major point of differentiation between workout mirrors is the accessories they include. Some devices, such as the Tempo, are designed more for cardio and bodyweight workouts and don’t include many, if any, accessories.

In contrast, other machines, like the Tempo Studio, are geared more toward strength training and come with equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, and weight plates.

Keep in mind that mirrors with accessories tend to cost more, so if you already own basic gym equipment, you may be better off saving money and going with a stand-alone mirror such as the Echelon Reflect Touch Smart Fitness Mirror.

App and classes

The defining feature of a workout mirror is the ability to stream exercise classes on the device’s large screen.

To access classes, you’ll need to subscribe to the machine’s compatible app. As apps vary greatly in the type and number of classes they offer, it’s important to consider which fitness platform best meets your goals and preferences.

Another factor to consider is the format of classes. For example, the version of iFit on the NordicTrack Vault offers on-demand and destination workouts but not live classes.

Personal training and form feedback

Several workout mirrors are equipped with cameras and 3D sensors, which allow them to provide real-time feedback on your form and even make recommendations about whether you need to increase or decrease the weight load during strength training workouts.

Similarly, some platforms offer live personal training, though there’s often an additional fee for these sessions.

Size

In addition to considering the size of the machine, you’ll want plenty of space to perform the workouts.

The required amount of space will vary depending on the type of workout. For example, cardio and HIIT often require more space than weightlifting or yoga.

Cost

When deciding whether a workout mirror fits your budget, be sure to factor in additional fees and costs, including delivery, assembly, accessories, and app subscriptions.

Tempo Studio is our top pick because of the value; it comes with an assortment of equipment.

But the workout mirror that’s best for your home gym depends on your personal preferences. You’ll want to take into account the space requirements, the type of workout you prefer (HIIT or yoga, for example), and whether live classes or on-demand feedback is important to you.

If you plan to use your fitness mirror regularly, it can be a great investment. It may be helpful to divide the price of the device by the number of times you think you’ll use it in a year — whatever your weekly workout goal is, multiplied by 52.

It’s usually far less expensive than attending boutique classes and may even be more cost-effective than joining a gym. Plus, there are additional perks, such as classes available when you want them and live coaching.

Whether a mirror trainer can see you depends on the device. With FORME, for example, the instructor can see you to offer corrections. On other devices, such as the Fiture, workout mirror trainers can’t see you, as the camera isn’t two-way.

Fitness mirrors are helpful for establishing a challenging workout routine at home. They offer variety in the form of different types of classes and instructors and ease because you don’t have to go anywhere.

Plus, there’s the bonus that, unlike a video workout class, some fitness mirrors can correct form and offer feedback.

Lululemon announced it would stop selling its workout workout mirror by the end of 2023.

We prefer the Tempo Studio to Tonal because it’s more affordable and comes with an assortment of equipment.

If you want something more aesthetically similar to the Lululemon Mirror, FORME fits the bill.

Workout mirrors make it easy to exercise at home by streaming a variety of live and on-demand classes.

They can also save you space by doubling as a regular mirror or providing hidden storage.

When purchasing a workout mirror, be sure to consider the available features, selection of classes, and price to find a product that works for you.
