There are two types of condoms that are classified as “long lasting.”

Extended pleasure condoms

This first type, known as extended pleasure condoms, is made out of a thicker material than traditional rubbers.

“The thicker material condoms are basically the opposite of the ‘feel like nothing is there’ condoms,” explains Zachary Zane, sex expert for P.S. Condoms. “By reducing the sensitization, they increase how long it takes to orgasm.”

Delay condoms

“Delay condoms are lined internally with some form of desensitizing agent, like benzocaine or lidocaine,” adds Zane. “These ingredients work as a local anesthetic and slightly numb the head of the penis, so it’s less sensitive, prolonging ejaculation.”

Worth mentioning: Sometimes people have sensitivities to the pre-treated numbing agent, says Dr. Jed Kaminetsky, medical advisor at Promescent, a sexual pleasure retailer committed to improving your sex life.

“Thicker condoms might be a good alternative to someone that has a sensitivity to the numbing agents,” says Kaminetsky.

Anyone who wishes they lasted longer during any kind of sexual activity.

If you answer “yes” to any of Qs below, desensitizing condoms could be a good option for you:

  • Do I wish I felt a little less during sex?
  • Am I on the market for a new type of condom *and* unhappy with how long sex has been lasting?
  • Am I feeling experimental with my condom choice?

That said, it’s important to talk with your partner(s) about how long your sex is lasting before you make the switch — especially if they’re someone you see regularly.

“Your partners might think that your sex has been lasting the perfect amount of time,” says sex educator Searah Deysach, owner of Early to Bed, a pleasure-product company in Chicago that ships worldwide.

Deysach explains that they might find your sexy sessions less pleasurable if/when they last longer.

If, however, they also wish your sessions lasted longer, it’s important to remember that there are more remedies than just thicker rubbers, she says.

There are also desensitizing sprays and wipes (more on those below). Plus, plenty of sexual activities don’t require a hard penis.

“There are still lots of sexy activities you can enjoy after someone ejaculates,” says Deysach. “Ejaculation doesn’t have to be the end of a fun time!”

Admittedly, the longer-lasting condom market is *not* saturated.

But still, figuring out which longer-lasting option is best for you can be tough. That’s why we put together this list of longer-lasting condoms that come highly recommended by reviewers all over the internet.

Don’t worry, we include important specs like whether or not they’re lubricated, if they have a textured outer shell, and what size penis they’re best for.

Pricing guide

  • $ = under $12 per pack (or alternative)
  • $$ = $12–$20 per pack (or alternative)
  • $$$ = $21–$60 per pack (or alternative)
  • $$$$ = over $60 per pack (or alternative)

Best overall condoms for longer-lasting sex

Durex Prolong Condoms

  • Price: $
  • Pack size: 12 condoms
  • Type: delay condoms
  • Features: benzocaine, ultra-thin, ribbed, lubricated

Durex Prolong is the clear gold medalist. Why? Because it’s built with all partners in mind.

The inside is lined with benzocaine, which helps the person doing the penetrating last long.

But the condom itself is made out of ultra-thin latex. That means that the person receiving the penetration will be able to feel every hot, textured, inch of their partner’s member moving inside them.

The external side of the rubber also features a ribbed design that can enhance the sensation of every thrust.

One caveat: This is a heavily gendered product. If gendered marketing induces dysphoria, opt for another condom on this list.

Best delay condoms for longer-lasting sex

Trojan Extended Pleasure Condoms

  • Price: $
  • Pack size: 12 condoms
  • Type: delay condoms
  • Features: benzocaine, ultra-thin, lubricated

As of this writing, Trojan Extended Pleasure Condoms boasts an impressive 7,453 reviews on Amazon, 83 percent of which are 4 stars higher.

These rubbers are lined with benzocaine on the outside, which slows you down.

And (!) they’re coated with a lubricant on the outside to increase the pleasurable slide-and-glide that makes sex feel better for your partner(s).

How’s that for a win-win?

Strongest numbing agent on condoms for longer-lasting sex

Pasante Delay Infinity Condoms

  • Price: $
  • Pack size: 12 condoms
  • Type: delay condoms
  • Features: lidocaine

The Pasante Delay Condoms are lined with lidocaine, which is stronger than benzocaine, another common numbing agent.

Transparently, that means you won’t be able to feel quite as much as you would with other options. But for people seriously trying to elongate their play, that could be a perk!

The intensity of the numbness also makes these a good choice if you and your partner(s) are interested in incorporating wearable vibrators into your play.

Best extended pleasure condoms for longer-lasting sex

LifeStyles Extra Strength Condoms

  • Price: $
  • Pack size: 48 condoms
  • Type: extended pleasure
  • Features: extra-thick, lubricated

Prefer to avoid numbing agents? Opt for a condom made out of a thicker material instead.

Made out of latex, Lifestyles Extra Strength condoms are 90 micrometers (mm) thick, nearly twice the thickness of ultra-thin condoms (which usually are 50 mm or less).

Another perk is that they’re lubricated on the outside.

Less lubricated extended pleasure condoms for longer-lasting sex

Trustex Extra Strength Condoms

  • Price: $$
  • Pack size: 24 condoms
  • Type: extended pleasure
  • Features: extra-thick, lubricated

Trustex Extra Strength Condoms also sport an impressive 90 mm thickness.

Although this pick is marketed as “lubricated,” Amazon reviewers note that these condoms are less lubricated than other brands.

So, these are a good pick if you or your partner(s) don’t like the slimy feeling of pre-coated condoms.

Best mutual pleasure condoms for longer-lasting sex

Durex Mutual Climax Condoms

  • Price: $$
  • Pack size: 10 condoms
  • Type: delay condoms
  • Features: benzocaine, ribbed, lubricated

Yes, this option from Durex is lined internally with the desensitizing agent benzocaine. But its exterior sheath boasts spots and ridges. Why? Because the texture can increase sensitivity for the receiver.

In other words, these rubbers make for longer *and* more pleasurable sex.

One thing to keep in mind is that not all people enjoy textured condoms! Some people find them irritating, overly sensitive, or scratchy.

So, before you purchase these babies ask your partner:

  • Do you have any experience with textured condoms?
  • I was thinking about getting a box of textured rubbers. How do you feel about that?
  • Do you want to try using a textured condom with me?

Like the other Durex pick on the list, the gendering of this product is… a lot. So, if you’d rather avoid that opt for a different product.

Best latex-free condom for longer-lasting sex

SKYN Non-Latex Lubricated Condoms

  • Price: $
  • Pack size: 12 condoms
  • Type: N/A
  • Features: latex free, lubricated

If you or your boo are allergic to latex, you’ve probably heard of SKYN. After all, SKYN is known for its non-latex (polyisoprene) condoms.

While this option isn’t explicitly marketed as a delay or extended play condom, some Amazon reviewers claim that they last longer while wearing this allergy-friendly option than with other rubbers.

That said, any time you try something new, it can be exciting — even if that something is condoms! So, if you don’t last longer the first go-around, be sure to try them again.

Choosing the right condom for you requires more than checking “Yes” or “No” on the longer-lasting box.

You also want a condom that:

  • fits the length and girth of your member
  • contains no ingredients that you or your partner(s) are allergic to
  • you are aesthetically drawn to

This guide on condom sizing can help you find the right size.

Remember: Wearing the wrong size condom can increase your risk of STI transmission and pregnancy. Condoms are only effective when used correctly and consistently.

Put your metaphorical and literal stopwatch away! There’s no set amount of time that sex needs to last to be pleasurable.

Don’t worry: We won’t leave it at that. We will answer the question you’re asking.

The answer, however, depends on how you define sex.

Sex is any meaningful act of pleasure, says psychotherapist and sex and relationship expert Rachel Wright, LMFT. Meaning, that anything — be it a hand job, cunnilingus, rimming, grinding, or co-showering — can qualify as sex.

Given how varied all these sex acts are, it makes sense that there’s no set time for sex to last. Right?

Usually, however, when someone asks this Q, they’re speaking specifically about penetrative sex, says Deysach. Meaning, penis-in-vagina or penis-in-anus sex.

But even for these types of sex, there’s no set amount of time sex should last.

“Some people with penises last a few minutes before ejaculation and others go much longer before ejaculating,” says Deysach. “It’s really a wide range and there is no one answer to how long you should be lasting.”

That said, older research found that P-in-V sex lasting 3 to 7 minutes was considered adequate, while 7 to 13 minutes was considered desirable. (Though, it’s worth noting that many study participants reported that anything over 10 minutes was considered “too long”).

The same study concluded that P-in-V sex lasting under 3 minutes was a sign of erectile dysfunction.

Promescent Delay Spray

  • Price: $$$
  • Bottle size: 20 sprays

“Desensitizing sprays and wipes decrease the sensation of the penile skin using local anesthetics,” says Kaminetsky.

Of all the options on the market, he recommends the Promescent Desensitizing Spray. “The dose can be controlled by the penis owner and it’s very rapidly absorbed so we don’t see vagina [or anus] numbness or loss of sensation,” explains Kaminetsky.

As with desensitizing wipes (below), the main draw of a product like a spray is that it’s not, well, a condom!

So, it’s a great option for partners who are already fluid bonded or who don’t like using a barrier method.

Promescent Delay Wipes

  • Price: $$$
  • Pack size: 5 wipes

This option also comes highly recommended by Kaminetsky. Like the Promescent spray, this option lasts longer and won’t transfer to your partner.

The best part, however, is how financially accessible this option is. One wipe costs $2–$4, depending on which package you buy.

Hims Clockstopper Climax Delay Wipes

  • Price: $$$
  • Pack size: 3 wipes

Another option for people who prefer to go condom-free, these climax delay wipes couldn’t be easier to use. Simply rip the package, wipe just the tip, then wait 5 minutes for the “wet” to dry before getting on with your partner.

Made by Him, a company known for its sexual health products, these wipes can be used alongside lube and other pleasure aids.

Talk with a healthcare professional if you’re experiencing any anxiety, stress, fear, or shame around how long it takes you to ejaculate.

According to Laura Berman, host of The Language of Love podcast and sexual health expert at Promescent, erectile dysfunction is one of the most common sexual concerns among people with penises.

“It’s completely manageable and nothing to be ashamed of,” she says. “There are so many ways that you can deal with this common sexual dysfunction and more resources and medications than ever before.”

And talking with a healthcare professional about your concerns can help you access those medications and resources sooner rather than later if you’re a good candidate for them.

Yes.

Depending on the type of delay condom you use, they can help you last longer during sex by dulling the sensation through their thicker sheath or numbing the tip of your penis with the help of a built-in numbing agent.

“There’s a wide range of answers for how long sex could last, whether you’re using longer-lasting condoms or not,” says Deysach.

How long sex lasts will depend on several factors, including:

  • what you qualify as sex
  • how recently you last had sex
  • what other sexual activities came before “the sex”
  • your current stress and hydration levels
  • your recent mental health, nutrient intake, physical activity, and relational happiness

No! There shouldn’t be any loss of sensitivity for the person being penetrated. That’s because the desensitizing agent lines the inside (not the outside!) of the condom.

“If the receiver has any discomfort, they should stop immediately,” says Kaminetsky.

While some partners may notice a slight difference between “barely there” condoms and longer-lasting condoms, the sex sesh shouldn’t be less pleasurable.

“No,” says Kaminetsky. “The numbing agents used in these products have been around for years and are generally well-tolerated by most people.”

If you typically have sensitive skin, take the time to test the agent before partnered play.

To do this, turn the condom inside out and rub the agent along the inside of your wrist or elbow. Cover the area with a bandaid for 10 to 30 minutes. Then, remove the bandage and check for any signs of irritation.

If your skin gets red, blotchy, or itchy, you probably have a sensitivity to the ingredients.

Great question!

If you’re planning to use a condom anyway, opting for a longer-lasting condom is the easiest choice. After all, it’s easier to slide on a condom than it is to spray or wipe your peen, wait a few minutes, and then roll on a rubber.

However, sprays and wipes have their upsides, too. These products may be a better option for sex acts where a condom might get in the way. Think: hand sex, sex with a dildo or other toys, masturbating, and the like.

Plus, sprays and wipes don’t put a physical barrier between you and your partner(s) — a bonus for anyone who hasn’t already been using condoms.

As for deciding between wipes or sprays? It all comes down to personal preference.

Some people prefer wipes because you can toss them after use. Other people prefer sprays because you can customize exactly how much numbing agent you apply, as well as isolate the agent to certain parts of your penis.

Ultimately, longer-lasting condoms are a great option for increasing the amount of time it takes you (or your penis-having partner) to ejaculate — especially for people who would be using condoms anyway!

But they aren’t the only way to increase the duration of sex. You can also use delay wipes, delay sprays, prescription medication, or try expanding your definition of sex.

No matter what you choose, remember: Quality is more important than duration!
