Casper Sleep was founded in 2014, and it has swiftly become a trusted brand in the mattress space.

The company is known for its mattresses and bedding products, such as pillows, comforters, and bed frames. For pet owners who love sleeping on a Casper mattress, the company even makes dog beds.

Casper mattresses get high marks for quality, comfort, and ergonomic design. The company has been endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association and consumers nationwide.

Casper makes foam and hybrid mattresses. There are four different types listed on the Casper website. Each is designed around specific budgets and consumer requirements.

Casper mattress pros

  • The company offers financing options, subject to credit check and approval, for a 0 percent annual percentage rate.
  • Casper mattresses are assembled in the United States. They’re made from materials sourced in other countries, including Vietnam, India, China, Portugal, and France. (For some people, this may be a con.)

Casper mattress cons

  • Even though Casper offers a range of prices, their mattresses are on the expensive side.

Casper mattresses come in a full range of sizes, from twin to king.

For this review, prices are based on queen-size mattresses and are as follows:

  • $ = under $1,095
  • $$ = $1,095–$2,000
  • $$$ = over $2,000

The foams used in Casper mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified and made without ozone-depleting chemicals. They’re also regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission for mattress flammability and low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions that can affect indoor air quality.

Casper mattresses don’t contain flame-retardant chemicals. Rather, they rely on a knit sock under the cover. If a fire occurs, the knit sock is designed to melt and suffocate the fire, extinguishing it through oxygen deprivation.

Casper mattresses range from soft to firm. They provide varying levels of support and pressure point relief. Each mattress is designed with softer, pliable foam around the neck and shoulder area. Firmer foam or gel pods that provide pressure point relief are situated along the waist and spine, for added support.

Based on customer reviews, Casper mattresses may be a good bet for people of all weights. Each mattress, including Element, their least expensive offering, is said to hold up well over time without sagging.

They’re also a good choice for couples, especially if one or both are restless sleepers. Most Casper mattresses have little to no motion transfer. According to reviews, the Nova Hybrid may be an exception to this.

Casper’s all-foam mattresses provide an average amount of edge support. Reviews about edge support for the Casper Original Mattress are mixed. Some customers rave about it, while others say that edge support is minimal. Casper’s hybrids typically get higher marks for this feature.

For those who sleep hot, each mattress has at least one perforated foam layer, designed to promote airflow and breathability. For the hottest sleepers, the Wave Hybrid has three perforated foam layers plus a layer of cooling gel. Casper has also launched Hybrid Snow, a new cooling collection of mattresses for extra cool sleeping. The Wave Hybrid and Nova Hybrid both have Hybrid Snow models currently available.

Back sleepers typically do best with a medium-firm mattress that supports spinal alignment. You may also want your mattress to provide some cushioning for comfort. If you like the feel of firm support, the Wave Hybrid may be your best bet.

The Wave Hybrid is Casper’s most supportive offering. It has full length, ergonomically zoned support areas that provide pressure point relief along the entire back, waist, and hips. Every Casper mattress, except for the Element, provides some degree of zoned support to enhance spinal alignment.

If you’re a side sleeper, you’re in good company. Research from 2017 indicates that side sleeping is the predominant sleep position among adults. Mattress preferences among side sleepers vary from medium soft to medium firm. If you like the feeling of being enveloped in your mattress, the Nova Hybrid may be your most comfortable choice. It’s cushiony, yet supplies support for the back and hips.

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you want a mattress that cradles your entire body, without letting your hips sink into the mattress. Some stomach sleepers achieve this by placing a pillow under their midsection to gently lift the pelvis.

A medium-firm mattress that supports full-body alignment, including the neck and shoulder area, may be best for you. Casper’s all-foam Original Mattress may provide comfort and support for stomach sleepers.

Casper Original Mattress

  • Price: $
  • Height: 11 inches

The Casper Original Mattress is available in all foam or as a hybrid with foam and springs.

Casper says the all-foam version is designed to provide more contouring and a glove-like feel. The hybrid is made to provide extra lift, which may increase airflow. Casper says both versions provide medium to medium-firm support, which may be good choices for back, stomach, and side sleepers.

Key features

This mattress has three layers:

  1. The top layer is made from aerated polyurethane foam made to promote air circulation, which may keep the foam (and sleeper) from getting too warm.
  2. The inner layer is made from zoned memory foam designed for spinal and pressure point support.
  3. The bottom layer differs between the hybrid and foam models. The foam model has a durable, polyurethane foam base. The hybrid’s polyurethane foam base contains encased springs.

Considerations

The Casper Original Mattress is heavy, at 79 pounds for the queen size.

Some customers complain that the mattress setup is challenging, as it’s hard to get out of the packaging to maneuver.

Casper Element Mattress

  • Price: $
  • Height: 10 inches

The Casper Element Mattress is an all-foam mattress designed for people who want comfort on a budget. The company says it provides medium-firm support.

Key features

The mattress cover is made from up to nine recycled plastic bottles. The top layer is designed with perforated foam that may make the surface more breathable and temperature neutral as you sleep.

Customers say it doesn’t sink or sag over time and continues to provide spinal support for years.

They also mention that this mattress has low motion transfer, making it a good choice for couples.

Considerations

Customers say this mattress takes a few days to air out and lose that new-mattress smell.

Others say it’s firmer than expected.

Casper Nova Foam Mattress

  • Price: $$
  • Height: 12 inches

The Casper Nova Foam Mattress has a pillow top designed for soft support. It also features seven zones that Casper says are strategically constructed along the length of the mattress to provide support for specific areas of the body.

Key features

Casper says the Nova Foam Mattress is designed to provide lush, cloud-like envelopment. The company also notes it has minimal motion transfer. This may make it a good choice for couples.

Casper says the mattress’s construction is designed to target the spine, shoulders, lower back, waist, and hips, and add extra support for these areas.

Two layers of perforated foam may wick moisture and move body heat away.

The cover is made from recycled materials and zips off for easy washing.

Considerations

If you like the bounce provided by innersprings, this mattress probably won’t work for you. Some users say it feels slightly squishy and doesn’t provide enough edge support.

Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress

  • Price: $$
  • Height: 12 inches

The Casper Nova Hybrid Mattress is a pillow top mattress designed to give soft support thanks to its innersprings. It’s the plushest mattress from Casper and gets good marks from side sleepers.

Key features

Even though it’s a soft pillow top mattress, the Nova Hybrid Mattress gets high marks from users for pressure point relief.

It’s made with seven zones of support designed to target the spine, shoulders, lower back, and waist areas.

It features two layers of perforated foam that may increase airflow through the mattress.

Customers say it has a firm border and edge support, which may help getting in and out of bed easier.

Considerations

Some users find this mattress too soft.

At 79 pounds, this mattress may be hard to maneuver for some people. Users recommend opening it and letting it expand directly on its frame.

Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress

  • Price: $$$
  • Height: 13 inches

The Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress is the company’s deepest mattress. It’s designed to give sleepers medium-soft support. The company says it’s a good choice for people who have body aches or pains and aren’t comfortable sleeping on a medium-firm mattress.

Key features

This mattress was constructed with a support system geared toward people who have aches and pains as well as sleep hot.

It’s designed to provide continual ergonomic zone pressure for full-body support.

According to the company, the foam surrounding the shoulder and neck region is softer and plusher on top. Casper says the gel pods in the foam provide stronger support along the waist and lower back.

Innersprings in the bottom layer are designed to add lift and may support airflow.

The mattress is made with three layers of perforated foam and a thin layer of cooling gel that may help keep hot sleepers cool.

Considerations

This mattress is available on the Casper website but differs in construction from the Casper Wave Foam Mattress sold on Amazon. This has created some confusion for shoppers.

Some users have mentioned that the Wave Hybrid Mattress gets low marks for edge support.

Casper Wave Foam Mattress

  • Price: $$$
  • Height: 13 inches

The Casper Wave Foam Mattress is designed to give medium support. Casper says gel pods are strategically placed to provide full-body, ergonomic reinforcement. The company says the softer foam around the shoulder area helps make for a soothing night’s sleep.

Key features

The Wave Foam Mattress is one of Casper’s thickest mattresses.

It has three layers of perforated foam and a layer of cooling gel that may help keep hot sleepers cool.

The addition of the gel pods may make this a solid choice for people who want relief from aches and pains, without surrendering softness.

Considerations

This mattress weighs 98 pounds and may be challenging for some people to maneuver.

Some users mention that it doesn’t provide significant edge support, making it hard for them to get off and on the mattress, given its height.

You can purchase Casper mattresses online from multiple e-commerce websites, including Amazon and Wayfair.

For people who like to try out mattresses in person before buying, Casper can also be found in brick-and-mortar stores, such as Macy’s.

Casper mattresses, like most other brands, go on sale many times throughout the year. Black Friday, President’s Day, and Veterans Day are some examples of times when you may be able to get a lower price on a Casper mattress.

Casper Sleep has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and a 4.3 (excellent) rating from Trustpilot.

Customer reviews

Casper mattresses get more positive reviews than they do negative ones. These reviews include high marks for ease of purchasing and delivery.

Casper foam mattresses and hybrid mattresses are shipped compressed to your door.

Shipping is free and no contact. For that reason, you’ll need to bring in your mattress yourself and remove it from its packaging.

Since most Casper mattresses are heavy, you may need to have help on hand to get the mattress into position. For rolled-up, compressed mattresses, it’s usually best to put the mattress where you want it before cutting open the plastic wrap.

Users recommend giving each mattress 1 or 2 days to reach its full size, plus off-gas its new-mattress smell.

Casper’s return policy varies from seller to seller. If you purchase a mattress through its site and wish to return it during your 100-night trial, all you have to do is call the company at 888-498-0003.

Casper offers a full refund on the cost of your mattress, provided it’s returned within the 100-night trial. You can also request an exchange during that time.

If you wish to return your mattress, Casper will arrange for a recycling center or local charity to come to your home and remove it.

If you purchase your mattress through Amazon, your experience may differ based on the seller. In some instances, Amazon may arrange a pickup for you and provide you with a full refund. Large items that are returned don’t have to be boxed.

In some instances, you may be instructed to dispose of or donate the mattress on your own, but will still be eligible for a full refund.

Are Casper mattresses expensive?

Casper mattresses range from around $400 for some twin-size models, to over $4,000 for some California kings. The Casper Element is the company’s most affordably priced mattress.

Casper mattresses go on sale several times a year. During sales, you may be able to save 30 percent or more.

Financing options are also available.

When reviewing pricing, take Casper’s 10-year limited warranty into consideration. Since you will have your mattress for around a decade, even Casper’s more expensive mattresses may seem cost-effective.

What if I want to return my mattress after the 100-night free trial?

Since Casper mattresses come compressed, it will not fit back into its box. For that reason, there is no need to keep the packaging that came with your mattress.

If during the 100-night free trial you decide to return your mattress, you can do so for any reason. You can arrange a return by calling 888-498-0003. If you arrange for an exchange, your second mattress will not be eligible for a 100-night trial or free return.

Do I need a bed base with my Casper mattress?

For comfort and durability, a bed base is recommended. Casper mattresses are meant to be placed on a firm, solid surface that is strong enough to hold the mattress and people who will be sleeping on it. If you don’t use an appropriate bed base, Casper’s limited warranty may not apply to your mattress purchase.

Casper makes high quality foam and hybrid mattresses at a variety of costs and firmness levels.

Casper mattresses consistently get high customer reviews across multiple e-commerce sites.

The company provides a limited 10-year warranty, a 100-night trial, and full refunds when customers aren’t satisfied.
