A few things happened while I was blissfully off-line for a week (gasp!)

The Diabetes OC (Online Community) has been busy, for one.  The results of the 2nd annual Diabetes OC Blog Awards are in.  I am honored to be named "best female blogger" for 2006.  THANK YOU kindly to everyone who voted.

Top honors this year went to Diabetes Self-Management, a new pro blog from the magazine of same name written by a team of five experts.  Quite the accomplishment for a four-month-old blog!  They must have done some serious impressing of readers in that short time.  I'll have to keep my eye on them.  Check out winners in all the categories here.

Ocnewmelogo Also, OC organizer Allison Blass has launched a year-long weight-loss/A1C-loss challenge cleverly titled "OCNewMe."  There will be prizes for the MVPs, and Allison says she's also putting together monthly drawings for people who are making good progress.  Sign-ups for the program are unfortunately closed already, but you can follow all the action at the website.

I also discovered a high-quality and fun blog called The Doctor Weighs In, which features "thoughts on fat, fitness and health from a medical point of view."  Do not miss the page with the cartoons of the day. Chuckle-iscious.

Must-reads: Fellow D-blogger Gabrielle Kaplan-Mayer has published a great interview in Diabetes Health with Steeler's lineman Kendall Simmons.  And Kerri over at SixUntilMe has interviewed Type 1 journalist Miriam E. Tucker, who I enjoyed meeting myself at last year's ADA ConferenceMedblog_awards_2

The Virtual Book Tour for Know Your Numbers, Outlive Your Diabetes has begun!  Have a look at our first stop over at Elisa Camahort's Healthy Concerns.  Thank you, Elisa!  And good luck with the 2007 BlogHer Conference.

Finally, may I remind you that DiabetesMine.com has been nominated for best patient blog in the 2006 Medical Blog Awards?  Click here to vote.  (It's a quick one.) Thanks, y'all.

** UPDATE: Signups for the OCNewMe program have been extended until Friday, Jan. 12 **
