Warts are common growths seen on the skin. They usually grow on the hands or feet, but can occur anywhere on the body. Warts are caused by a papilloma virus and are contagious. The virus enters through breaks in the skin and buries itself in the layer filled with blood vessels. Once established in the skin, the virus enters the cells and hijacks their internal machinery, forcing the normal cells to produce more virus particles. The virus causes the skin cells to multiply forming the wart clump.
