A column of bones called vertebrae make up your spine. Spinal instrumentation is a surgical procedure to stabilize or strengthen the vertebrae through attachment of rods, hooks, or wires. This procedure may be performed because of broken vertebra, or arthritis, or spinal weakening due to birth defects, diseases, or tumors.
