The prostate gland makes the fluid that carries and nourishes sperm and is part of the male reproductive system. It is located between the base of the bladder and the beginning of the penis and surrounds the upper part of the urethra, which carries urine from the bladder out through the penis. Prostate cancer results from the uncontrolled division and growth of abnormal prostate gland cells, which form a mass of tissue. Many men have no symptoms, particularly when the cancer is in an in early stage. Symptoms of prostate cancer include: * Problems with urination, including * weak flow * trouble starting or maintaining the stream * frequent or sudden urge to urinate * blood in the urine or semen * trouble having an erection * pain or burning during urination * pain with ejaculation or * in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs Factors that affect treatment include the size of the tumor, whether or not it has spread, and your age and overall health. Some of the treatments are: * surgical removal of the prostate, called a prostatectomy * radiation therapy * hormone therapy * watchful waiting
