Your circulatory system controls the flow - or circulation - of blood. The center of this system is your heart. Normally, when your body is at a comfortable temperature, blood flows in an even and continuing loop to and from your heart, through blood vessels throughout your body. Exposure to cold temperatures causes a shift in blood circulation. Blood flow to your extremities is reduced to maintain your core temperature and to protect organs such as your heart and brain.
