Cryotherapy is a type of surgery. But it’s considered a less invasive procedure. The incisions are tiny. That means you’ll recover faster and only be in the hospital for 1 to 2 days.
You’ll get an anesthesia. So during the surgery, you’ll be asleep. Using a transrectal ultrasound, your urologist guides 2 freezing probes through the skin between your anus and your scrotum, and into your prostate. While your prostate is being frozen, the doctor puts a catheter carrying warming solution in your urethra, so it doesn’t freeze. The freezing process lasts about 10 minutes. The catheter will stay in for about 2 weeks.
