Some people use statistics to try to figure out their chances of getting cancer or of being cured. It is important to remember that these numbers relate to large groups of people. No two people are alike. This information can’t be used to predict what will happen to you.

These are 2007 statistics from the American Cancer Society about the Ewing’s family of tumors (EFT).

  • Between 2% and 3% of all childhood bone tumors are in the EFT.

  • About 250 children and adolescents are diagnosed with the EFT in the United States each year.

  • About 66% of the children diagnosed with the disease are between 10 and 20 years old.

  • About 15% of people diagnosed are adults.

  • EFT mostly affects white people. This disease is rare in other racial groups.

  • Males are slightly more likely than females to get EFT.
