Some people use statistical reports to try to figure out their chance of getting cancer. Or they use them to try to figure out their chance of being cured. Statistics show what happens with large groups of people. Because no two people are alike, statistics can’t be used to know or predict what will happen to you.
These are some 2007 statistics about Hodgkin’s disease. They come from the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Facts & Figures and from the National Cancer Institute.

Approximately 8,200 Americans will be diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease this year.

Hodgkin’s disease affects men more than women. In men, 4,500 new cases will occur and in women, 3,700 will occur. These numbers have not changed much over the past few years.

Hodgkin’s disease can occur in adults and children. It is more common between ages 15 and 40, and again after age 55.
Treatment for Hodgkin’s disease is very effective. About 1,100 will die from it this year.
