Some people use statistics to try to figure out their chances of getting cancer or of being cured. Statistics show what happens with large groups of people. Because no two people are alike, statistics can’t be used to know or predict what will happen to a particular person.
These are some 2007 statistics from the American Cancer Society about eye cancer.

An estimated 2,350 new cases of primary eye cancers will be diagnosed in the United States this year.

Most, but not all of the new cases of primary eye cancers will be melanomas, with lymphomas being the next most common. Melanomas and lymphomas usually start in other places in the body, not in the eyes.

Primary eye cancers can occur at any age. Most cases occur in people older than 50.

An estimated 220 Americans will die from cancer of the eye this year.
