FDA Alerts

  • To minimize the risk of induced arrhythmias, patients initiated or re-initiated on sotalol should be placed in a facility that can provide cardiac resuscitation and continuous ECG monitoring for at least 3 days (on maintenance dosage). (See Proarryhthmic Effects under Cautions.)
  • Calculate Clcr prior to dosing. (See General under Dosage and Administration.)
  • Sotalol is marketed in the US under separate trade names for ventricular (Betapace®) or atrial (Betapace AF®) arrhythmias.
  • Betapace® is not approved for atrial arrhythmias, and should not be substituted for Betapace AF® because professional labeling differs (e.g., for cautions, precautions, and contraindications; patient instructions and advice; and dosage and administration) for the products, and only Betapace AF® is distributed with patient labeling appropriate for patients with atrial arrhythmias.
