Speaker: What is an average caloric intake per day? Dr. William McCarthy: This varies vary great way. Caloric intake the necessities of a person intake really is based upon a number of factors. For example, body size, body built, age, gender, also medical conditions, metabolic rate; we're also looking at some medications, the genetic make up. If we had to give you an estimate the average male requires somewhere between 2300 and 2900 calories per day. This can be altered by all kinds of things such as physical activity. The average female requires about 1900 to 2200 calories a day, and again anything from my patient pregnancy can change these dietary rates. We can get a better idea by actually directly or indirectly measuring metabolic rate in an individual.
