Why You Should Go to Banner Maternal Fetal Center Well the purpose of why I wanted to build the fetal therapy center here at Banner was because I wanted to make sure we served our patients really well, especially those here in the Phoenix area. Prior, in the years past and we actually have a long history of fetal therapy here in Phoenix, we have been actually doing in-utero procedures here for the past 20 years, quite honestly. But in the past, patients were very fragmented, meaning that they’d see one doctor for a procedure; they’d see another doctor for consultation; they’d see a third doctor afterwards and there was really no cohesiveness. So the purpose of the Banner Maternal-Fetal Center is to bring all the different subspecialties and all the different services that are necessary to the care of both mother and baby together under one common umbrella and that way it makes it a lot easier for the patient to receive all her care, all her consultations, and meet all the doctors and staff as necessary in one place. Well whenever a mom and dad have a baby that has special needs or has, for example, an in-utero problem, it can be tremendously scary for them, and the best thing to kind of help with the situation is for them to get the proper information at one place and coming to the Banner Maternal-Fetal Center where they can meet, for example, myself and our partners initially that can talk about what’s going on with the baby and then talk about potential treatments, I think would be tremendously helpful. Within the center itself we are also having patient concierges that will be able to guide patients through each step, through the process of their procedure, as well as help arrange for the necessary consultations with other subspecialists such as neonatologist or pediatric subspecialist who will care for the baby after birth as well. So, by coming to the center, hopefully it’s a one-stop shopping, so to speak, for the parents. There are many different centers that are popping up all over the U.S. that are offering some form in-utero intervention. What I would say to patients is that the best thing to do is to be able to meet the doctors and have them explain to them, the patient, exactly what they are doing; what their experience levels are, because a lot of what occurs in terms of success and outcome is really, derives from the doctor’s experience and their knowledge. And, you know, one of the great things about our center here is that we actually have the privilege of docs who do a lot of these procedures and have been doing them for many years.
