Why Low-Fat, Low Calorie Diets are Stupid.

You all, Happy New Year! It’s January 2nd and half the country is going on a diet today, and 98% of these people are going to end up heavier than they were when they first went on their diet. You know what I am saying? It’s the most backward thing I have ever heard of in my life. Now let me tell you why I think low fat diets are just playing stupid, and I am going to back it up with a research from the book ‘Good Calories, Bad Calories’ by Gary Taubes. Now this book is awesome. I have read it like 3 times, and it backs up with scientific research, what I have been telling people for ever, that’s why I love this book. It’s like my Bible. Now, Ancel Keys, I have a little bit of B for Ancel Keys, because he is the guy who started the whole fat and cholesterol is bad for you, his very selective research. I am not a fan of it, and I think it’s absolutely wrong. We will get into that another day. But he did a Starvation study, which is pretty damn good study. It explains a lot of what I see in the gym in general society. So the starvation study that he did was composed of 32 male subjects, and these male subjects typically ate about 3,000 calories a day to maintain their weight. Now, what Ancel Keys did, was he had them chop those calories in half, and took them down to 1,500 calorie diets, which is typically what the average American does when they go on a diet. Now did these guys lose weight? Yeah, they lost weight. First twelve weeks, the average weight loss was 12 pounds. Second twelve weeks, the average weight loss was 3 pounds. So as you see, the rate of weight loss reduced or slowed down tremendously from that first twelve weeks to that second twelve weeks, and there is a reason for that, that we are going to hit on. Now here are some of the other symptoms that these guys experience on top of weight loss. Nails grew slowly, hair fell out, when they cut themselves shaving, they would bleed less than expected, and they would heal a lot slower. Their pulse rate slowed down, as well as their resting metabolic rate. Now here is a very very important principle that you have to understand. When you reduce the number of calories that your body takes in, your body goes, ‘What the heck is going on?’ ‘Where I am throwing that food?’ So what it does is, it reduces the number of calories that it expels. Calories in and calories out are dependent upon each other, they are not independent variables. They effect each other, so they compensate for each other. So most people blame their slow metabolism for the weight gain in the first place, then they go on a low calorie or low fat diet, and further reduce that slow metabolism. It doesn’t really make any sense. It’s very very backward to me. People do it all the time. On top of that they had increasing weakness, loss of ambition, narrowing of interest, depression, irritability, loss of libido, and they were always cold. I find this a lot at the gym, with like the skinny girls, they are like, I am so cold, and it will be a hot day and they are wearing sweatshirts. It’s kind of weird, they were like, why am I cold? I am like, are you on a low fat diet? they said, Yeah, Are you on a low calorie diet? They said, Yeah. I said, Eat some food. I said, That’s why you are so cold all the time. It’s a symptom of being on the type of diet that you are on. These guys became just preoccupied with food, they would talk about food all the time, they would daydream about food. These guys actually started leading recipe books, they started drinking coffee all the time, they started chewing gum, they were absolutely preoccupied with food, because of the fact that they were hungry all the time, because they were only being fed twice a day on this low calorie diet. Psychologically, these guys started to have some serious, what they call character neurosis, right. These guys would throw tantrums, while they are waiting in line for food, some of them boarded on, they boarded on psychosis, and these guys wer
