Walking After an Epidural Depending on where you are and what facilities offer, there are different types of epidurals. Everybody has heard of the walking epidural. With a walking epidural yes, you will be able to get up and you will be able to walk around the facility and go to the bathroom and all those kind of things. Probably they ought to keep you on the labor floor because I can imagine delivering in an elevator somewhere and that would really kind of housekeeping doesn’t like it, you know, the security issues, it’s just not a good thing. So as a consequence they probably keep you in the confines of your room, which is okay. However, not all places offer walking epidurals, okay? If the facility that you are at does not offer a walking epidural then yes, you are restricted to the bed in the sense that they don’t want you to get up out of bed, have weak legs, stumble, fall, anything along those lines. Again, certain facilities offer this, others do not.
