Speaker: What are carbohydrates and are they good for me? Jeannette Bessinger: Carbohydrates are one of the three main components that make up your foods. Carbohydrates are your bodies primary source of its fuel like gasoline called gulose. Carbohydrates are actually your body's main source of gulose, so they are neither good nor bad they are important part of the healthy diet. The issue comes up around quality and quantity. You want high quality carbohydrates which means that they have lot of fibre in them, that they are a whole food as suppose a simple carbohydrates which is a more like a sugar like what we think of this white foods and you want to eat a regular amount of them not over weight them.
