In your body protein is largely responsible for cell growth and repair particularly of muscle fibers. The standard allotment of protein is .8 grams per kilogram of body weight. And a kilogram is 2.2 pounds per gram so for instance a 125 pound woman would need about 45 grams of carbohydrate a day and 180 pound man would need about 65 grams a day.
