Tricyclic Antidepresants Pain Management Male: Is there any—like tricyclic antidepressants in pain management? Tim Canty: Tricyclic antidepressants are very useful medications. They’re sort of in the category of medications that work well for neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain is usually qualified by an injury to a nerve or an irritation of a nerve and usually has a certain characteristic to the way they feels. It might be burning or toothache sensation or shumming and usually tricyclics, they’re very effective for that type of pain.
