Question: What are treatments for depression? Dr. Mayberg: Well, the good news is that there are a lot of treatments available for depression. Many people can be treated effectively with medication or with certain forms of psychotherapy. And again, I will always refer to treatments that have been tested by rigorous, controlled clinical trials, not just an experience of anecdotes of someone getting better or not, but it's lots of literature, many papers, many studies over the last number of years that show that people can have recovery from a major depression using a variety of medications or, being treated with interpersonal psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy.
