Which treatments are available for women with spider veins? Dr. Luis Navarro: The main way of treating spider veins is sclerotherapy in which we inject the chemical compound into the vein through very, very thin needles and through a magnifying glass. This chemical compound irritates the inner lining of the vein, of the spider vein, and the spider vein closes and disappears. Occasionally, we combine, in very selective cases, the sclerotherapy with a laser through the skin laser in a technique that we have developed over the last couple of years here at The Vein Treatment Center but that’s very occasionally. Usually, sclerotherapy alone is the gold standard in the treatment of varicose (spider) veins.
