Louis Yuhasz: I’m Louis Yuhasz, I’m the Executive Director of LouiesKids.org. How do you treat Obesity? Louis Yuhasz: You can immediately go and visit your pediatrician. I’m a big believer in western but I’m also a big believer in different approach is in healthcare. Your pediatrician is the first place to go, unfortunately there are a lot of doctors a lot of pediatricians don’t have a large base on nutritional experience. It just one outlet, I think though that it becomes simpler than not even. I think we need to participating kids lives. There was the study that was done by the University of Minnesota several years ago, about high achieving children. They did 70 children and they studied 70 high achievers out of the Minneapolis area. And the only common link that these kids shared with another was that they had dinner as a family at least three times a week. There is some vary simple measures, I think sitting down with your kids and having a meal with them is really important because if Junior is had a bad day it maybe gauge by the factors that his had three servings of mash potatoes. I think that, that’s one thing, I think that there are also three simple measures and these are the things that I’ve just learned in time which are put on a pedometer. I mean it’s pretty simple; you can get a pedometer at any sporting good store. They’re pretty small, you put on back and I think it something that the family can become engage in and it counts the number of steps you taking a day. We should be having at least 10,000 steps a day which is only four miles. Really not impossible for a child, that’s one. The second is to count your fat intake, if the kid is struggling with there weight they should only be taking in about 20 grams of fat a day. And if you look at the smallest bag of snack chips, the smallest one the you might falling in the 8 or the 10 pack that you might put in your kids lunch, that bag of snack chips has 15 grams of fat in it. So, if your kids struggling with his or her weight that’s almost there whole days requirement of fat and that’s small bag of snack chips. The last thing that I would suggest is to monitor fiber, and adults know this already. Kids really need to understand that, everyone should be having at least 30 grams of fiber a day. So, those are three simple things; wear a pedometer, count your fat grams and count your fiber grams and I think some of the simplest ways to do the food part of the counting is by sitting down as a family and planning out meals and having meals together.
