Another thing that is very important in patients who have osteoporosis or in patients who are at risks for osteoporosis is to make sure that their home is safe for them so that consideration is given to avoid things that may cause the patient to fall. So that if a patient is at risk for osteoporosis or has osteoporosis, but there are throw rugs that somebody may trip over if the patient is to get up in the middle of the night, the use of astray more to go get something that there is a light that’s close by that they can turn on so that they can see easily where they need to go to avoid falling. The patient with osteoporosis, it’s a fall that will cause the fracture. Care needs to be taken to hold on to a banister as somebody walks down the stairs and similarly as I mentioned things that can help strengthen muscles and improved balance can have a big impact on the risks of fracture for a patient. There are programs through a physical therapy that can help patients with their sense of balance. It can help patients with muscle strengthening and help patients change their posture when they go to pick something up or to reach that can even lower their risks of having a fracture.
