Andie MacDowell: Hi, I am Andie MacDowell and I am here with 17th US Surgeon General Doctor Richard Carmona. We are here to talk to you about an innovative new program called Time to Talk Cardio, which is dedicated to advancing heart health by helping to improve communication between patients, and their healthcare providers. Richard Carmona: By offering patients and doctors many resources such as communication skill building videos, brochures and goal setting worksheets, Time to Talk CARDIO enriches the patient physician relationship to help people make the most of their office visits. Andie MacDowell: After loosing my mother to a heart attack, I realized how important it is to take an act of role in your health. Since, heart disease affects so many lives its crucial that people communicate effectively with their healthcare provider. I know, from using the website that I learned that things that I needed to know were to prepare myself, so when I go into see my doctor we should have the questions written down and also at the end of the visit to go over what I have learned from my doctor by asking him what was that you told me and we are having him repeat what I needed to know. Richard Carmona: Well as surgeon general and as a physician, it was clear to me, that too many of our citizens were having the experience that Andy was having, that they were frustrated, that they reliving their patient, doctor encounters feeling that they did not get the information, that they really needed to have a better encounter. That's why many of us came together to put together this program of Time to Talk CARDIO to allow the citizens to better understand the importance of health communication to improve their cardiovascular health. Time to Talk CARDIO is an educational program underwritten by Merck and developed in partnership with the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation, Canyon Ranch Institute and RIASWorks.
