Interviewer: Just having a tic bite, it looks like maybe it was a deer tic, you do not give antibiotics prophylactically. Does it make sense, I have given this one dose which I hear a lot of people have been doing lately. Does it not make sense? Female It does not make sense at all because the majority of tics do not carry the infection or they are not on for long enough to transmit the infection. So, just having a tic would not be enough to put somebody on the antibiotic. Interviewer: And the tic has to be embedded for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours so we are probably given antibiotics inappropriately too many times. Interviewee: Absolutely.
