What Are the Three Best tips For Helping Women Advocate For Their Thyroid Health? Paul Ladenson: I think the three things that a woman who is concerned about thyroid disease can do are; number one, to be aware of the symptoms of an overactive or underactive thyroid gland, to make sure especially during pregnancy that there is a sufficient amount of iodine in her diet; the building block for thyroid hormone that we all need to maintain normal thyroid function. And three, to have good communication with her physician about her symptoms and the potential need for thyroid blood testing that could easily recognize a thyroid condition that might be readily treated.
