The Size of My Premature Baby - Catrina's Story Tanner was six pounds, three ounces. He was actually a pretty large preemie. He was 19 inches long, but a family member of mine brought me Grover. When Tanner went to Banner Thunderbird I was still recovering from my c-section and Grover here kind of kept me company while Tanner was away from me and he kind of put him in perspective because Tanner wasn’t even as big as Grover here, so I held on to Grover until I could be by Tanner’s side and he is a significant part of our family when it comes to Tanner. Tanner sleeps with him every night and we get pictures with him every year just to kind of track Tanner’s growth and so he has become a really special friend to us. One of the nurses brought, unfortunately when you have a preemie you don’t get the luxury of really well, I can’t talk for everybody, we didn’t have the luxury of having newborn pictures at the hospital and so we don’t have any brand new, newborn pictures of him and one of the nurses felt really touched by that when my husband had told her and she had brought him special booties and these were actually way too big for him, but we were of course gracious and this was his little hat. They get their little hats and their booties given to them when they are newborn and unfortunately we didn’t get to have that right away and so the nurses made it really special for us and we just kind of kept him with Grover because, like I said, his feet didn’t even fit in his little booties. So we just kind of keep these close to us and remind us of how itty-bitty he is because now he is turning into such a big boy.
