Host: What is the role of screentime? Rene Hackney: Screentime refers to the amount of time that young children are spending watching television, playing video game or playing computer games. The idea is that the more children are spending time during those activities, the less time they are actually reading and the less time they are choosing another may be more age appropriate activities. The guidelines for screentime given by zero to three, is from two to ten years old an hour a day is maximum for computer, television and video games combined. Many children these days, many young children are getting significantly more screentime then that, which means they are not being read to a reading as much as they should be.
