Hi everybody! I am Melanie Raposo, and welcome to Mommy's Minute. When your baby comes out feet first during labor, this is known as a breech birth. The best way to tell if you are going to have a breech birth is by getting an ultrasound done. Having a smaller fetus, more than one fetus, or unusually shaped uterus can cause your baby to move into the breech position. The breech position can put your baby at risk of getting its head caught in your pelvis during labor or encountering breathing problems. To prevent this, your doctor may perform an episiotomy to make more room for your baby to pass, or he may perform a C-section. To learn more about the risks associated with breech birth, consult your doctor or midwife today.
