The vaccine protects against four strains of HPV, a virus that causes 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts. Health Canada estimates that about 75% of all sexually active men and women will become infected with HPV at least once. From Virginia - According to a national environmental organization, shower curtains containing PVC emit toxic chemicals that have been linked to serious health problems. By testing the chemical compositions of PVC shower curtains purchased from five major retailers, researchers found that they contained several volatile compounds, many of which have been identified as hazardous air pollutants. All of the retailers except Wal-Mart have released their PVC policy to the organization. And finally, from Washington - The FDA is issuing a warning regarding silver dental fillings, which contain mercury and may pose a risk to developing children and fetuses. While the FDA's scientific advisers have previously stated that silver fillings are safe for most people, the agency is still studying whether the minute amount of mercury released by chewing and brushing is harmful in young children, and are not recommending the removal of existing dental work.
