The Reduction in Chemotherapy's Side Effects over the Years Chemotherapy is changed to great deal. In fact, I learned to give chemotherapy back in 1970’s when we didn’t have very good anti-nausea medication or supportive or what we called, adjunctive medications that lessen any of the toxicity of chemotherapy. Additionally many of the newer chemotherapy drugs don’t have the toxicities that of the drugs that we used back in the 70’s. In that time period, it was very difficult to people to get chemotherapy. They often had to be hospitalized to receive their treatments. But now, chemotherapy is giving as an outpatient. One of the hard challenges when your newly diagnosed with cancer if you have memories that a family member who suffered is to learn that the overcome those fears.
