The Name Myasthenia Gravis Explained That brings me a little bit to talk about the need itself, my asthenia perhaps. Mayo means muscle; asthenia means weakness, so muscle weakness and then gravis. Where did that come from? Well originally when I was diagnosed, there was about a 30% chance. If you're diagnosed that you're going to die within three-years for getting that diagnosis—we’ve come so far with treatments, medication, with also especially our ability to treat people in an intensive care unit which has completely turned that around. And I believe that when my patients come to me, that I can tell them that for the most part, I'm going to be able to keep them safe and keep them functioning like they want to function.
