Melanie Raposo: Maintaining a healthy pregnancy isn't just about eating right while you are pregnant it's also very important to take care of your body physically by exercising. Prenatal exercise can offer variety of benefits from helping to reduce excess weight gain to eliminating aches and pains, even better exercising while you are pregnant has improvement to help women enjoy the physical demands of delivery. Sandra Ross: Oh! It's been wonderful I think when you are pregnant it's actually for the first time it's such a crazy experience so new and so different sort of feel fragile and you don't want to step off the curb the wrong way and there is a lot of people telling you cant to this and you shouldn't do that and when you come across like fit mom and suddenly you realize that your body is still your own it's different and it's changing rapidly but you can still move in it, it's okay to lift your arms about your head and it really fills with that feeling that exercise gives you that this is actually a really healthy time in my life it's not a time of sickness. Speaker: Andrea Page founder of Fit Mom Canada offers Pre Natal classes such as it's fit mom to be class that helps women prepare physically for pregnancy as well as labor. Andrea Page: At Fit mom during our prenatal fit mom to be fitness classes we incorporate a variety of strength and resistance training exercises to increase muscular balance this is to help prevent injury in late pregnancy there is a hormone called relaxin that is folding around women's body preparing her for labor but makes her joints unstable so this is why we incorporate those exercises. We also incorporate our exercises down in the form of a circuit so a woman's working cardio vascular as well. And the big thing around that is preparing the women for the endurance required for labor. Speaker: Exercising while pregnant also helps prevent against certain complications that can occur during late pregnancy. Andrea Page: A few of them may be gestational diabetes, pregnancy induced hypertension of course muscular imbalance complications like lower back pain sciatica can be warded off if you are doing a balance of yoga with strength and resistance training which is going to help a women's body stay lengthened I suppose to shrinking or what they call subluxing and impinging a lot of the nerves and joints along the way. Exercise during pregnancy is encouraged at any time throughout pregnancy women can continue all the way to the very end. If a women hasn't been exercising before the old guidelines use to say no don't start but the newer guidelines even in the last ten years that new recommend that a women who is not exercising get started because it only makes sense a healthier body is going to reap a healthier pregnancy is going to reap the healthier baby.
