Dr. Marc Savant: Hi! I’m Dr. Marc Savant and welcome to Savant MD. Today’s wellness tip is about Cholesterol. We hear a lot about lowering cholesterol, but what actually is Cholesterol? Cholesterol is a necessary substance in our body. It serves as the raw material for our hormones. The problem is that many adults either by diet or heredity have too much Cholesterol in their blood stream. Too much Cholesterol can lead to the formation of plaque and inflammation in the Coronary Arteries. This also can lead to clot formation. Later on, this plaque and clot can break off, and then cause blockage of blood flow down stream. This causes the symptoms of heart attacks and strokes. So, get your Cholesterol checked everyone to two years, especially if you are over age 40 and if you have a family history of heart disease.
