The Effects of Aging on the Male Anatomy Travis: The life cycle of the male penis. As you age, the likelihood of erectile dysfunction increases. And in fact between the ages of 40 and 70, the percentages of men who are “potent” father, children decreases from 60% to 30%. So they’re actual changes. As a man age, the appearance of the head of the penis will become a little less of that darker penis because there is less blood flow. And you can lose some of your pubic hair as your testosterone levels lower. Andrew: Cosmetically that collection of fat that man tend to get in the pubis area just sort of overhangs and covers of penis -- less attractive. So, you know -- Jim: Yeah. Andrew: It does. Jim: And -- Andrew: I certain cases, I’ve seen men come in say, “Hey, I got to see you. I can’t find it.” Jim: Yeah. Andrew: And actually surgery does help. Jim: They say even just a 40 extra pounds on you in the right spot. So it will kind of make you look about an inch shorter and that’s the good a reason to lose weight. Lisa: Yeah. Andrew: We’re talking about it -- we’ve talked about changes of women quite a bit but there are real changes and men, it's just another reason to take of yourself. Jim: So especially if you’re younger, you know a lot of younger people maybe don’t care about their heart health or their brain health but doing all the things that are good for that will be good for that guy too. Travis: And the takeaway here is absolutely true. A lot of people feel just like your muscles as you age. They’re going to waste away. People feel like as I get older, my sexual function is going to decrease whether it's a woman or a man. It doesn’t have to be that way especially with men, that blood flow to your penis is what causes an erection. If you’re doing it all the things to improve your heart health like Dr. Jim says, you’re going to also be doing yourselves some favors when it comes time to go into the bedroom so to speak and it’s not an inevitable thing.
