Steps on Carrying Chi

Carrying Chi. This is a great exercise to feel energy between your hands. Starting from standing pose, on the inhale, just allow your hands to expand away from each other. On the exhale, you consolidate the energy between your hands, like you are holding a ball of light or a ball of energy. On the inhale, they move apart, and on the exhale they move towards each other. Slow, gentle movement. Feel the difference between the inhale and the exhale, the expansion and the consolidation. Slowly shift under the earth and to your left foot, and as forward fold, begin to draw the hands down towards the earth, releasing your back, your neck, carrying the Chi under the earth, and then up into your right foot, through the leg, all the way back below the navel, and across. Again, moving down the leg, clearing any energy that's blocked. Feeling energy between your hands. Releasing your neck, your shoulders. Moving slowly under the earth so your connection to the earth is undisturbed and stable. The balance is clear. On the way down, chin drops, release the tension in your back, forward folding, taking the head down below the heart will cool the body, calm, release tension in your back. On the way up, the tail bone drops, firm the belly, protect the back. Come back to a vertical axis, shifting slowly, and pause, expanding and consolidating. Opening the energy gate in front of the belly. Shifting to the second side, down your right leg. As you get warm, you can fold a little further, carrying the energy under the earth into the big toe side of your left foot, and carrying the energy up. This is a good way to practice moving stillness. Reminding yourself to be as still and present as you can, while in movement, carry stillness. Release tension in the back of the neck through the shoulder blades. One more time. Soften your jaw, let the neck go, slowly shifting, and coming back up, grounding into the earth, tail bone drops, the crown of the head comes up last. Back to center, gather, and clear, back to stillness.
