The Advantages of Dry Powder Inhaler for Childhood Asthma Male: Tell me about the dry powder inhalers. What’s the advantage of them over the old fashioned ones? Alfin G. Vicencio: The dry powder inhalers, number one, don’t require a device and that’s the device that you use for the metered-dose inhalers. The coordination is arguably a little bit less important although it is still important and the deposition of the medications without these spacers is actually very good. Male: And how would you use that correctly and typical? Alfin G. Vicencio: A typical one is you open the canister, again, you exhale before you inhale. So you empty your lungs put the device to your mouth and simply inhale very rapidly and quickly so that the medication will actually be inhaled and then hold your breath for several seconds.
