Pain. Usually someone knows they have injured their pelvis because there’s an injury associated with it. As an orthopedic trauma surgeon, I am usually involved with the higher energy injuries, meaning a high-speed car accident, a motorcycle accident, a fall from a great height. Now there can be injuries to the pelvis just from childbirth itself, and usually those we don’t really consider fractures. It’s more, the pelvis opens up, which is a normal part of childbirth, as opposed to an injury with trauma, you actually get a true break, or a fracture in the pelvis, and those may or may not need surgery to help with them.
