Women should talk to their doctor about bladder control problems; that’s the first thing. We do not like to, I think because we are embarrassed or women do not know that it is actually a condition that they can talk to their doctor about and so they wait till the end of the appointment and the doctor is getting ready and about to walk out the door and they bring it up and often times what happens is then they get this dismissal, “Well, you know you have just had a baby,” or, “You know, you need to lose 75 pounds,” or “It’s just part of getting older,” and then that’s it. They do not bring it up again. So the first thing is they need to know that bladder control problems are real conditions. They can be helped by lots of different things. They need to talk to their doctor and if they do get brushed off or dismissed they need to find another doctor, find another health care professional and keep bringing it up until they get satisfaction.
