Smoking Addiction - Bill's Story Female1: Dear Doctors, our story is one that I was debating on sharing but when it is a life or death situation, why do we have to lose? My father will be 54 at the end of February. He started smoking… Bill: When I 16 years old. I tried to quite smoking, cold turkey patches, Nicorette, hypnotism, just working out but it seems like I’ve always come back. Female3: He did have open heart surgery and two lungs surgeries and these were birth defects. Female1: We are all thought that my dad was willing to quit smoking when he had his open heart surgery. Just thinking about to how scared he was and terrified. We didn’t think smoking again was going to be an option. Female2: He says he is going to quit. I always hope that he will but we are just kind of use to him not being able to. Bill: It’s embarrassing to go through medical problems that I have and still smoke. Female3: To me, it makes me feel like that he does not love us enough to quit. My biggest worry is that he’s going to leave me before his time and it’s not just me, it’s his girls. Bill: I really don’t think about not being here for the grandkids and… Female1: I honestly, I can’t picture him not being there for weddings or babies being born. I don’t want to think about it. Female3: That’s really an emotional topic. Female1: I love my dad very much and I just want him to be around for a long time. Bill: I can’t give up smoking.
