Speaker: Washington D.C news anchor Maureen Bunyan shares information about the Annual Free Heart health screening provided by Sister to Sister foundation in all the major cities through out the country. The Sister to Sister foundation health fair encourages women to be proactive in preventing heart disease. Maureen Bunyan: The basic format is to get as many women through the event as possible, even men come, but to get women who probably would not be going to health care provider every year for their annual check up, to come to the heart health fairs to get some basic information about themselves. They get their blood pressure checked. They go to a booth and get their fingers pricked to check their cholesterol and their sugar levels and if they have complaints about heart beat issues, their heart is checked. We have nurses and doctors with stethoscopes who can do that and then they immediately are given the results. So if someone comes in out of blue, walks in out of street, sits down, has the blood pressure checked and the blood pressure indication show this is not normal. She immediately will be counseled by our nurse and we have had some cases in which some women are actually in such a bad shape that they are taken from the heart health expo to the emergency room and most of the cases fortunately it's a moment for women to get informed, to network with each other and to reinforce the need to take care of each other, and to care of themselves. And also it's place where they can get a lots of updated information about all aspects of heart health, including how to recognize symptoms or heat issues, why all these tests are so important to do at least once a year, what to do if you do have a symptom and all the current nutrition guidelines about what is heart healthy eating. We even have booths where, there are chefs that come in and cook and show you how to heart healthy meals. The hospitals and the other groups that are in the health care providing come with all their latest programs. We have the folks who do exercise, coming in to share the need the for exercise and how that contributes to wellness and heart health. So it's a huge array of information and materials that are -- people just walk up to the booth, get the material and experts are there to talk to them and answer questions.
