Since type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, ways to modulate your body’s immune system may change the course of illness, may soften the illness. There are a number of strategies to modulate different lymphocytes. The immune system has many, many different layers, many ways to get at you. So there are multiple approaches that are being tried and one of which may prove to be very successful and there are a number of clinical trials today. If you’re diagnosed new with type 1 diabetes, you should look to get into a clinical trial. So you go to the academic center or the endocrinologist in your community and see if you get into a clinical trial.
